Medicaid Denial Code Update – CO-200 & CO-31 effective 03/16/2026
Dear Colleague:
Medicaid has reinstated denial code for
Eligibility CO-200 in eMedNY.
Effective immediately, denial code CO-200 will once again follow the
original eligibility determination process previously used
by Medicaid.
Under this process, claims that are pending or denied by
Medicaid with CO-200 will automatically move to Escrow in the EI-Hub
Billing module while the child’s Medicaid eligibility is
being determined. If the child is later confirmed eligible, the claim will
be captured through the standard EI-Hub Medicaid sweep process. CO-200
denials do not require provider action while eligibility determination is
pending.
CO-31 denials must be handled differently and require action in the
Workable Claims queue in the EI-Hub Billing module. This denial
now indicates that the child’s CIN number billed to
Medicaid does not match the CIN number on file with eMedNY. Providers
should review and work with the
county and/or service coordinator to correct the CIN
information and rebill the claim from the Workable Claims queue,
as appropriate.
